Both bands have long traditions in both parade- and fieldmarching, and have both individually participated in several large festivals, tattoos and competitions all around Europe.
The band was formed in the fall of 2002 due to the lack of membership in both bands, which made it virtually impossible for the bands to perform at a high international level on their own. Since both bands had the same conductor at this time it was agreed that the two bands would join forces to perform several events each year.
The name that was chosen for this partnership was Agder Drillkorps, and it was chosen due to the geographical location of the cities of Kristiansand and Arendal. Kristiansand is located in the county of West-Agder, while Arendal is located in the county of East-Agder. The counties are often referred to as the "Agder County", and thus the name was appropriate for the newly formed band.
Agder Drillkorps is conducted by Børre Amundsen, who choreographs the performance aswell as arranges all of the music used.
